CITY OF BIG RAPIDS ON-LINE PRIVACY POLICY

In the State of Michigan, laws exist to ensure that the public has a right to access appropriate records and information possessed by City government. The General Property Tax Act provides that all property assessment rolls and property appraisal cards be available for public inspection and copying and that local tax collecting units capable of making available a posted computer printed tax roll may do so through the provision of a computer terminal for public viewing.

Information that is not confidential and is available during an in-person visit to City Hall may be posted for electronic access through the City of Big Rapids Internet Information Services Site.

The City of Big Rapids has links to other web sites outside of City government through the City of Big Rapids Internet Site. The link(s) that appear on this web page are solely for the information of a reader of the page. When you link to another site, you are no longer on the City's web site and this Privacy Notice will not apply. Regarding tax payment information for real property, any payment not received by February 28th following a tax year becomes delinquent and is turned over to the Mecosta County Treasurer for collection. Any payments made after February 28th following the tax year are collected directly by the Mecosta County Treasurer. Therefore, the user/viewer of this information, should verify with the Mecosta County Treasurer whether amounts indicated as being unpaid after the February 28th following the tax year have in fact been paid or not paid to the County.

The City of Big Rapids is committed to data security and the data quality of personally identifiable information that is available from government web sites, and has taken reasonable precautions to protect personally identifiable information from loss, misuse or alteration. Unauthorized attempts to change information on this website are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under state and federal laws including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.

You are now able to pay your property taxes online using a credit card. To do this, click on Current Tax Search on the Online Services Program. You can search by owner name, address or parcel number. Once a match is found, simply click the view/pay current tax bill line and you will be taken to a detailed screen showing taxes for that property. If you click the "pay now" button, you will be taken to a secure off premises website that allows you to use the payment system. Please note that the City does not maintain credit card information of any sort. This is done through Point and Pay
